Holt is an active village, with a history dating back over a thousand years, situated just nine miles from the beautiful city of Bath. Our village, too, was a well-known spa and at the time of Jane Austen its curative waters were sold all over England. In the middle of the village lie the National Trust Gardens, The Courts, and just a mile away, across the fields, the fifteenth-century manor house of Great Chalfield. The church of St. Katharine is mainly of Victorian design but has a fifteenth century tower, a Saxon font and a fine peal of bells, the oldest of which was cast in 1495.
It is an ideal centre for tourism and uniquely we create the week's programme around where our visitors want to go. Recent requests have included the village where one American visitor was stationed during the war and the house where another's great grandmother worked as a maid!

We can visit the stone circles of Stonehenge and Avebury, the great cathedrals of Salisbury, Winchester, Wells and Worcester, historic towns such as Stratford on Avon, Bath and Oxford, the great seaports of Bristol and Portsmouth and gardens like Stourhead and Mottisfont Abbey. For the first time we are also able to offer a personal tour of Prince Charles' garden at Highgrove.
We hope that, you can join us in our daily village life. However all our visitors can do as much, or as little as they choose. We understand that some rest may be needed!
The following programme, gives a flavour of what may be on offer, but the final choice will largely be yours!
